{"id":736,"date":"2011-12-25T09:30:10","date_gmt":"2011-12-25T04:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcurocks.wordpress.com\/?p=736"},"modified":"2011-12-25T09:30:10","modified_gmt":"2011-12-25T04:00:10","slug":"campus-walkabout%e2%80%82","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ramramaswamy.org\/blog\/2011\/12\/25\/campus-walkabout%e2%80%82\/","title":{"rendered":"Campus Walkabout\u2002"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><strong>What: <span style=\"color:#008000;\">A walk around the periphery of the campus of the University of Hyderabad.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><strong>When:<span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"> 1 January 2012, 8:30 am<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Where:<\/span> <span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Startoff at the Main Gate, moving counterclockwise (toward Gopanpally&#8230; )<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">We&#8217;ll walk for a few hours- go as far as possible- and will be led by Prof. <strong>A C Narayana<\/strong> of UCESS, the University Engineer and others. <span style=\"color:#ff0000;\">Please bring along (a) water for yourself, (b) sunscreen + hat if you need it, (c) friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The idea is to get acquainted with the campus- too many of us know very little about the place, the extent of the land that remains, and just what has been happening to it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/hcurocks.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/dsc02182.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-737\" title=\"dsc02182\" src=\"http:\/\/hcurocks.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/12\/dsc02182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Walkabout<\/strong> refers to a rite of passage during which male Australian Aborigines would undergo a journey during adolescence and live in the wilderness for a period as long as six months when they would trace the paths or &#8220;songlines&#8221; that their people&#8217;s ceremonial ancestors took, and imitate, in a fashion, their heroic deeds. The songline here is the path along <strong>Gurbaksh Singh Wall, <\/strong>going past the UoH menhir where our prehistoric ancestors lived.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Do come.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"><strong>It is a great way to welcome in the new year!
