{"id":1214,"date":"2012-06-30T18:37:48","date_gmt":"2012-06-30T13:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcurocks.wordpress.com\/?p=1214"},"modified":"2012-06-30T18:37:48","modified_gmt":"2012-06-30T13:07:48","slug":"the-secret-life-of-plant-biologists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ramramaswamy.org\/blog\/2012\/06\/30\/the-secret-life-of-plant-biologists\/","title":{"rendered":"The Secret Life of Plant Biologists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hcurocks.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/untitled-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1255\" title=\"Untitled 2\" src=\"http:\/\/hcurocks.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/untitled-2.png?w=116\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>It is always a pleasure to bring to the notice of the wider UoH community that a colleague has been honoured for his\u00a0excellence in research: Professor <strong>A S Raghavendra<\/strong> of the Department of Plant Sciences has been named a\u00a0<strong>Corresponding Member<\/strong>\u00a0of the <a href=\"http:\/\/my.aspb.org\/\"><strong>American Society of Plant Biologists<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The award will be formally presented during the opening session of Plant Biology 2012, ASPB\u2019s annual meeting in July in Austin, Texas.\u00a0<em>First given in 1932, the Corresponding Membership Award honors up to three distinguished plant\u00a0biologists residing outside the United States with life membership in the ASPB,\u00a0a professional scientific society, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, devoted to the\u00a0advancement of the plant sciences worldwide.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1227\" title=\"Untitled\" src=\"http:\/\/hcurocks.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/06\/untitled.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"101\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><em>With a membership of some 4,500 plant scientists\u00a0from throughout the United States and more than 50 other nations, the Society publishes two of\u00a0the most widely cited plant science journals: The Plant Cell and Plant Physiology.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The citation reads: <strong>Agepati Srinivasa Raghavendra (University of Hyderabad, India) is nominated for pioneering work in photosynthetic carbon metabolism and stomatal guard cell function.
